Heylo, everyone! Have you ever wanted to play Battletoads? Chances are good if you're reading this, you've played it at least once so that's a silly question! But have you ever wanted to play it without any of that pesky color?
To my surprise, that's what I did! Having never even really heard of it before, I honestly expected Battletoads in Ragnarok's World to be a portable sequel that's rarely mentioned... Like the Kid Icarus game for the Gameboy! But instead it really was just a full on port of the NES Battletoads game. Which I guess isn't really a bad thing, even though it wasn't what I expected.
The game actually holds up surprisingly well. The graphics can be a little muddy'n'ugly with the lack of color but it's not actually too bad when you're playing the game itself. Like, while the backgrounds weren't pretty, the objects were just fine. I could tell exactly where I needed to be in the Turbo Tunnel when objects came to crash into me! ...Whether or not I could get out of their way is another matter. >.>;
The music and general gameplay held up just fine too. I mean, it really did just feel like I was playing Battletoads. It just happened to not have any color. I could've probably been playing Battletoads on an old TV and gotten the same effect!
So it was a salty experience in the end. I mean, it's not a bad game and it held up just fine, but unless I'm itching to play Battletoads on the go, why not just play the NES version?
